Tent London Exhibition
Now in its seventh edition, Tent London is one of the main areas at Design Festival. Located in Brick Lane, it hosts the experiments of young talent from home and abroad and is an event that has always been grounded in ideas. The Tent seeks a balance between creativity and business: the products on display are not art installations; they have been chosen to be sold.
Our attention is immediately drawn to the new collection of customizable ceramic products by Söderlund e Davidson – a couple in design and in life – presented on a ten-metre conveyor belt.
Giunto alla settima edizione, il Tent London è uno degli spazi principali del Design Festival. Situato nella zona di Brick Lane, accoglie le sperimentazioni di giovani talenti nazionali e stranieri ed è un evento che da sempre si basa sulle idee. Il Tent cerca un equilibrio tra creatività e commercio: i prodotti esposti non sono installazioni artistiche ma sono scelti perché vengono venduti.
La nostra attenzione viene immediatamente catturata dalla nuova collezione di prodotti in ceramica personalizzabili di Söderlund e Davidson, coppia nel design e nella vita, viene presentata su un lungo nastro trasportatore di 10 metri.
The Duffy London Studio has invented Swing, an original meeting room table transforming meetings into exciting and fun experiences. The chairs are in fact swings suspended around a walnut table. In addition, the designers assure us that vacuuming will be a breeze!
Lo studio Duffy London inventa Swing, un originale tavolo da riunione grazie al quale gli incontri si trasformano in stimolanti e divertenti esperienze. Le sedie infatti sono altalene sospese attorno al tavolo in noce. Inoltre i designer ci assicurano che passare l’aspirapolvere sarà un gioco da ragazzi!
The Up table, also by Duffy London, gives the impression of a coffee-table resting on golden balloons, like the Runner Table with six chairs with their own built-in shadows.
Dà l’impressione di un tavolino sospeso su palloncini dorati il tavolo Up, anch’esso di Daffy London, come il Runner Table con le sei sedie corredate da ombre.
The wooden Plié table, by Hungarian Gergely Kiss-Gàl, folds up like a sheet of paper and can be put up in just a few moves. It is ideal for temporary installations because, once dismantled, it doesn’t get in the way at all.
Il tavolo in legno Plié, dell’architetto ungherese Gergely Kiss-Gàl, si piega come se fosse un foglio di carta e si monta con pochi gesti. È ideale per gli allestimenti temporanei in quanto, una volta smontato, il suo ingombro diventa ridottissimo.
Meike Harde, whom we had already met at Now! Le Off at the Cité de la Mode et du Design at the Paris Design Week, offers a series of London textile furnishings, based on the fact that cabinets very often just need to protect items from dust and so don’t need heavy doors.

Le Off alla Cité de la Mode et du Design in occasione del Paris Design Week, propone la serie di arredi tessili London, basandosi sulla considerazioni che i mobili contenitori molto spesso hanno solo bisogno di proteggere gli oggetti dalla polvere e quindi non sono necessari pesanti ante o sportelli.
From the many pieces of handcrafted wooden furniture, I’ll pick out the two that impressed me the most: the Bamboo bench by Crafted in Kyoto/+Noma and the Glass Willow Seat by Spencer Jenkins.

The New Old Light lamp by the Taipei studio, Kimu Design, aims to marry Chinese tradition with Western innovation. It comes with a paper shade and has a flexible structure, which can be adjusted depending on the kind of light desired.

The LED Starry Light lamps bring the thrill of admiring the night sky right into our homes, projecting the constellations onto the walls. You can choose the two equinoxes and solstices of the northern hemisphere, but you can customize the handmade lampshade by providing dates, times and geographical locations.
